Alexander Edo is the artist name of Edwin Coleman. This Chicago native was raised on the north side of Chicago grew up drawing superhero characters after watching the X-Men cartoon series and writing fan-fiction based on his favorite video game, Tomb Raider. While in high school, he took classes at Marwen, a known non-profit art organization that sought to teach inner city youth different aspects of art. Around this time, he was watching anime and changed his artistic style of illustrating. He also took the opportunity to join an international group of remixers who remixed Japanese and Korean pop music. He utilized the college bridge program to study Japanese language and culture at DePaul University. This changed his illustrations further as he began to bring aspects of Japanese culture into his works. Upon graduating high school, he attended The American Academy of Art which gave him the chance to take several figure drawing courses and further his skills in illustration. Shortly after, he took classes at Harold Washington College and performed in several showcased vignettes at the college. There he also took a class in creative writing which is when he began his work-in-progress fiction novels. Thereafter, he attended DePaul University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Arts focused on art, media, and design.
